Preserve and protect Town of Spider Lake, Wisconsin
We had our very first dinner at the Fireside on County B this past Saturday evening. We were invited by our neighbors who had been there many times before.
What a treat. We were greeted with a smile and seated right away. I almost wish we would have arrived too early so I could have spent some time in the bar. True Northwoods ambience. Fireplace, log walls, comfy chairs. Just the place to relax before dinner.
I love trying different supper clubs and restaurants. I spent about 9 years working as the Food & Beverage Director of the Rochester Golf and Country Club in Rochester, MN. There I worked with Chef Rick Forpahl. He had trained in Switzerland and taught me so much. I really came to appreciate a well thought out plate. Taste, texture and appearance.
The Fireside hit all those points. High quality ingredients, well seasoned, and nice presentation. The chef’s adage, “You eat with your eyes first.” is taken seriously at the Fireside. From the complimentary relish tray to the salads, soup and entrees it was truly a feast for the eyes. Nicely garnished and artfully arranged.
The meals were fantastic. My husband and I shared a bowl of their cream of celery blue cheese soup. Delicious. The dinner salad that came with the entrees was a pleasant surprise. So often it is iceberg lettuce with maybe a tomato or two. Not at the Fireside. Theirs is a blend of fresh greens garnished with thinly sliced radishes and slivered carrots. I had one of the nights specials, beef brisket. So flavorful and tender. My other three companions had only compliments for their dinner entrees.
Our waitress was a delight. She was friendly and very attentive. Gave us suggestions and was back to check if everything was to our liking.
So if you’re looking for a special night out, the Fireside is a sure winner. We will definitely be back. Kudos to the chef. Great job.
My only complaint. I was too full to try one of their desserts. Next time.
